The safeguarded funds — held in segregated accounts — would be identified and ring-fenced from the general estate. Those funds would be returned to customers ahead of other creditors. Safeguarding law gives you a priority claim on those funds, subject to the costs of the insolvency process itself. Equals Money's own money and creditors would have no claim on your safeguarded balance. Important caveat: Insolvency processes take time. You may not have immediate access to your funds while the insolvency practitioner completes their work. There may also be small deductions to cover the costs of the insolvency process itself. This is a standard feature of the safeguarding model.

However, this is the exception rather than the rule among fintech platforms. The safeguarding model is well-established, FCA-supervised, and used across the fintech industry. It is not a weaker protection — it is a different protection, designed specifically for e-money. EU customers benefit from equivalent safeguarding protections under the EU Electronic Money Directive as implemented in applicable EEA member states.

How do I close my bloxley account?
